Ok so i'm hopeless with technical stuff.
Was speaking to Brian today about getting a new lens which will be in budget and one which will work with the space I have in my flat. At the moment I have a 50mm so sorted on the headshot type lens.. Need one which zooms in and out and decided to go for a 18-55mm IS for the canon.
Not too bothered if its second hand and in good condition, just want it fairly fast ... not wanting to part with too much money either..
So yes.. recommendations please or if anyone is selling one let me know

Have a look at Ffordes used Canon lenses. Personally I would always suggest a prime lens such as 28mm, which will be wider aperture, better optically and cheaper than any zoom.

ffordes have qiute a bit in stock. They have a Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX so might suit indoors better with the f2.8.
You could also take a walk round to High St to The Camera Shop and see what Paul & Steve have in their second hand stock.
I'm just about to sell off all my canon gear so you can have a look at the 28-105 but I think it might not be wide enough for you.

Thanks guys, now you have chucked a cat in the bag and made me more confused. Brian did show me basically what the 18-55 could do and I was quite happy with that. I will still love my 50mm but its useless for everything apart from headshots and upper body stuff in my flat because all the photogenic areas are a little tight and it doesn't help being 6ft tall lol. I might pop into the camera shop tomorrow to see what they have and then compare prices..on the ffordes website and they do have lots of used stuff at good prices so may end up buying from there.

We just purchased the 18-55mm with IS online.
Had a look in all the Perth shops, one of them was wanting £100 more than the online price. Jessops were the most helpful, spoke to Dave but they don't sell that lens in store on its own and we didn't fancy buying a whole camera just to get that lens.

Isn't an 18-55 a kit lens? Or am I thinking of Nikon. Sorry don't know much about Canon however the Nikon version you can pick up for £90-120 so I would guess Canon is around the same.

The older 18-55 was a "kit" lens, but I found it more useful as a paperweight.
The newer 18-55 has IS and is available individually as welll as part of a "kit".

I've got a Sigma 18-200mm looking for a new home, it's not got IS though, but has got quite a range if you ever need longer than 50mm.

Chrissie let's merge our places together! My garage is plently long for body shots and your apartment sounds plently high enough so my heads don't get chopped off!
Oo btw my girlfriend is buying me a nikon D700 and 50mm 1.4G sooo can't wait to get my first FX camera and see what the deal is with this 50mm fast lens business!
