Am I the only one who gets really peed off whe you see images on some sites ( not this one so far) when wanabee models post a selection of images that are taken in front of a mirror.
Now I aint dissing someone looking to get some work as a model if you think you have the look then great.
But the fact that they post images of themselves with the mobile in the image is not exactly flattering is it. why not go get professional images done and post them rather than some really rubbish image from a mobile phone.
It may do for friends and family, bebo and facebook but please don't post it on a model & photographer site.
Find a photographer and get some images done not all of us are expensive and some even do TIME FOR work

I have seen that done quite alot, looks bad when they have good professionally taken pics in their portfolio at the same time.
Can understand a newbie doing it just to show togs what they look like though if they are looking for their first shoots

Well some people dont have friends with cameras.
I wouldnt call mobile phone pictures that unflattering if Im honest, depends whos taking the picture is all I can say. Least if its an unflattering picture shot by a mobile then it will proberly be blurry, when its an unflattering image shot by a 'photographer' then its worse.
Underexposed/over exposed.. unflattering poses. Least with a mobile then your in control and if its on automatic then it wont be under or over ... your in charge of the image and choose if its for public consumption whereas when its a photographers image of you then you have no control.
Not long after I started modelling I came across images of me nude (this was before I was even doing nude as a level), I was promised nothing would be seen (by the photographer who shot them).. found myself naked all over his website. If I had a choice I would rather have had 10 self shot camera phone pictures over his 30 or so shitty underexposed unflattering images of me.
Guess everyones different.
Maybe they have nice camera phones and they use the mirror to show it off!

I have seen it a fair bit on modelling sites for initial pictures that get removed after getting a shoot etc, personally I don't see it as a problem, better than nothing, at least you get some idea of what the model looks like etc.
Shot two or three, maybe more models with such pics, doubt I would have if they had nothing.
Horses for courses and all that.

What I object to is when, after a few months, these phone pics remain the only pics on her profile and you know it's just some stupid wee twat who want her friends to think she's a model by joining a "model" site, but with no intentions of actually modelling. Rant over!!

I don't think that anyone wanting to join model sites and get initial tf work should have to have professional pictures, but mirror pictures are probably the worst. I at least had pictures taken with my camera balanced on a ladder when I first joined modelling sites
One of my first shoots I paid for to try to build up a decent portfolio and I've still yet to receive more than 1 websize image and this was 9 months ago so I frankly wish I hadn't bothered and had stuck with self portraits until I knew the local scene a bit better.

I took my own photos when I started but I took them with the camera facing me, without mirrors.
I hate it, its pretty chavvy, they should get their maw to take the picture or balance the camera on ladders or whatver!!
Its especially bad when the flash is reflected in the mirror and the photo looks all blurred.
Models.com delete your profile I believe if your pictures are not up to standard. They rip these people to shreds in their forum anyway!

Camera phone pictures, everybody has to start somewhere, just as long as they are removed as soon as something half decent is available.
Though there is another danger of girls posting on websites with camera phone pictures and that is the age thing, who can verify the age of a model if they take the images themselves, nobody else who knows them is involved.
I had a very nicely written e-mail from a girl asking me to check her portfolio out, which I did only to find images of a girl aged no more than 14 stark naked. camera phone in hand, shot in the mirror. it was not on this site, however I got the site moderators to step in kinda quick.
So while the camera phone debate will continue to be discussed, it sadly also gives underage kids a chance to get on websites.

If someone wants photos taken from a phone why dont they get somebody else to take it, all the arm length shots and one is mirror just dont look right but that might be me

Definately better than nothing ... absolutely .... that is if the model is serious about working as a model and not a timewaster as Rob is referring to - and by Christ, this industry is full of timewasters (models and togs).
If the male / female is serious about modelling I'm sure he /she will post good images reasonably quickly.

I can see both sides of the argument here.
I also detest the knid of shoots Jazzy is talking about but I also agree with Chrissie to an extent.
In this day and age, everyone knows someone with some kind of camera, even if it is a phone camera, so get a friend to take it, using your phone if necessary.
Everyone knows someone, even a neighbour, work mate or fellow student.

Allan's point about age is a very good one, and one no doubt we have all encountered or will encounter, I think though it is the photographers responsibility to make the relevant checks, get the supporting paper evidence and not shoot until it has been proven that the model is old enough.
My comment earlier was more about the poor cam/point and shot pics, rather than mirror ones, which I agree are un-necessary, it really shouldn't be a problem to get someone to take some half decent snaps, even modern cam phones can put out fairly reasonable quality at web size.
